Rutland Water: eclipse drake American Wigeon still, Lagoon 2; Little Gull, Sanderling, 2 Greenshanks, Green Sandpiper & 4 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; Wood Sandpiper still, North Arm.

Wednesday 30th

Rutland Water: eclipse drake American Wigeon, Lagoon 2; Sanderling, Lagoon 4.

Tuesday 29th

Rutland Water: eclipse drake American Wigeon, Lagoon 2; juvenile Shag on tern raft in the North Arm mid morning, then flew low in the Fishponds. Also Wood Sandpiper, Whimbrel, 2 Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, North Arm & Red-necked Grebe off Barnsdale. Bittern, Lagoon 3 + Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 1.

Eyebrook Res: juv LRP, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, Ruff, 5 Greenshanks, 5 Green Sandpipers & 1 Dunlin.

Monday 28th

Rutland Water: Red-necked Grebe & Wood Sandpiper still, North Arm; Bittern, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: Ruff, 3 Greenshanks, 3 Green Sandpipers, 3 Common Sandpipers & 1 Dunlin.

Loughborough: no sign of Hoopoe today. Some video of the bird by Mike Tew here.

Sunday 27th

Loughborough: Hoopoe still, showing on and off in garden of 5 Lemontree Lane and in Broom Avenue.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper still, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Whinchats, 2 Ruff, 3 Greenshanks, 1 Black-tailed Godwit & 1 Common Sandpiper.

Saturday 26th

Loughborough: Hoopoe showing on and off still, mostly in the back garden of 8 Cherry Close this afternoon.

Eyebrook Res: 2+ Whinchats, Garganey, Marsh Harrier, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Greenshanks, Ruff, 4 Green Sandpipers & 2 Dunlin.

Rutland Water: Bittern again, Lagoon 3 at 15:00.

Luffenham Airfield: 2 Whinchats & 3 Wheatears.

Friday 25th

Loughborough: Hoopoe in front gardens of 3 - 7 Lemontree Lane (LE11 2QS), also getting in Broom Lane. Bird has been present for several days; showed well on several occasions this afternoon, but also disappeared for long periods. If visiting, please park sensibly and respect residents' privacy.

Wanlip Meadows: Pectoral Sandpiper still on the scrape.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, 2 Ruff & 2 Greenshanks, North Arm; Bittern, 2 Greenshanks & Red-crested Pochard, Lagoon 3; 2 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 4 (+ usual passage waders).

Eyebrook Res: Garganey at the inflow, also 3 Whinchats, Marsh Harrier, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 6 Greenshanks, 2 Dunlin & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Thursday 24th

Wanlip Meadows: Pectoral Sandpiper still on the scrape, but no reports of Spotted Crake today.

Rutland Water: summer plumage Red-necked Grebe, North Arm (presumably the regular bird returning for its 4th year), also Wood Sandpiper, Whimbrel, 2 Ruff, 3 Green Sandpipers, 2 Greenshanks, Common Sandpiper, 5 Dunlin & 4 Ringed Plovers.

Hicks Lodge: 2 Redstarts still.

Wednesday 23rd

Wanlip Meadows: Spotted Crake and Pectoral Sandpiper still on the scrape, viewable from Plover hide.

Rutland Water: Bittern, Lagoon 3.

Tuesday 22nd

Wanlip Meadows: Spotted Crake and Pectoral Sandpiper still on the scrape, viewable from Plover hide.

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper still, also 6 Greenshanks, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 5 Green Sandpipers, 3 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper & 2 Red-crested Pochards.

Burrough Hill: Redstart in bushes on the south side next to the wood (also 10 Spotted Flycatchers).

Monday 21st

Wanlip Meadows: Spotted Crake and Pectoral Sandpiper still on the scrape, viewable from Plover hide.

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper on the Rutland side of the inflow, also Garganey south of the island.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper still, North Arm; Greenshank & Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 2 & at least one Great White Egret still around the reserve. I think it's probably about time I stopped putting Great White Egrets on the website from Rutland Water, as they are resident at this site now.

Hicks Lodge: Dunlin & Wheatear.

Sunday 20th

Wanlip Meadows: Spotted Crake on the scrape, also Pectoral Sandpiper still, viewable from Plover hide (NB the hide is only open from 9 - 4 each day). Nearby, 2 Garganey at Cossington Meadows on the Tern Pool.

Rutland Water: male Pied Flycatcher near Marquee 3 at 08:12 then flew towards the AWBC; Black Tern still, Lagoon 3; Wood Sandpiper, North Arm & 3 Great White Egrets around the reserve.

Hicks Lodge: 3 Redstarts & 1 Dunlin.

Saturday 19th

Wanlip Meadows: Pectoral Sandpiper on the scrape this evening.

Rutland Water: Black Tern, Lagoon 3; Wood Sandpiper, Wet Meadow; Little Gull, 2 Greenshanks, 2 Green Sandpipers, 3 Ringed Plovers, 7 Dunlin & Great White Egret, Lagoon 4.

Croft Hill: Pied Flycatcher.

Hicks Lodge: female Redstart + Osprey this morning.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Greenshanks, 7 Green Sandpipers, 3 Dunlin & 2 Red-crested Pochards.

Cropston Res: 2 Greenshanks from the dam.

Friday 18th

Rutland Water: Black Tern, Lagoon 3; Wood Sandpiper, North Arm; Garganey, Lagoon 4 + 2 Great White Egrets around the Egleton Reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Marsh Harrier, 2 Greenshanks, 3 Green Sandpipers & Dunlin at the inflow.

Thursday 17th

Rutland Water: Black Tern, Lagoon 3 & Wood Sandpiper, Wet Meadow.

Eyebrook Res: Greenshank & 5 Black-tailed Godwits at the inflow.

No reports of Pectoral Sandpiper at Cropston Res today, and of interest, the flock of 7 Bee-eaters was seen in Hertfordshire today.

Also a nice pair of Leica 10x42 BA binoculars added to the For Sale page today.

Wednesday 16th

Cropston Res: Pectoral Sandpiper still at the inflow.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Greenshanks, 5 Green Sandpipers & 1 Dunlin at the inflow.

No sign of any Bee-eaters at Ulverscroft today.

Tuesday 15th

Cropston Res: Pectoral Sandpiper still at the inflow.

Ulverscroft: 5 Bee-eaters still near the priory at 08:30, but no other reports today.

Thornton Res: 2 juv Med Gulls.

Rutland Water: Greenshank, 3 Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, Common Sandpiper, LRP, 5 Ringed Plovers & 7 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; Scaup, Lagoon 3; Green Sandpiper, Wet Meadow + Marsh Harrier around the Egleton Reserve.

Eyebrook Res: Greenshank, Ruff, Dunlin, Common Sandpiper & Green Sandpiper.

Monday 14th

Cropston Res: Pectoral Sandpiper still at the inflow.

Ulverscroft: 4 Bee-eaters still near the priory at 14:30 at least.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, Wader Scrape hide briefly this morning; Marsh Harrier & Garganey, Lagoon 3; 2 Great White Egrets, Lagoon 1; Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Dunlin & 7 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; 5 Common Sandpipers, 4 Green Sandpipers, 6 Dunlin & 2 Ringed Plovers, North Arm.

Eyebrook Res: male & female Red-crested Pochard still, also 3 Black-tailed Godwits, Dunlin & 5 Green Sandpipers.

Sunday 13th

Cropston Res: juv Pectoral Sandpiper at the inflow, also 7 Black-tailed Godwits.

Ulverscroft: 5+ Bee-eaters still.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper still, North Arm, then flew towards Lagoon 4 in the evening.

Cossington Meadows: Garganey still on Upper Marsh.

Wanlip Meadows: 1 Common Sandpiper & 4 Green Sandpipers.

Saturday 12th

Ulverscroft: 7 Bee-eaters still.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, North Arm.

Somerby: Whinchat by stone pile on Newbold Lane this morning.

Eyebrook Res: male & female Red-crested Pochard.

Friday 11th

Ulverscroft: 7 Bee-eaters still, showing well at times from the footpath, usually north-west of the Priory.

Rutland Water: adult Little Gull on Lagoon 4 again this evening.

Eyebrook Res: Marsh Harrier at the inflow.

Launde Abbey: Green Sandpiper on the pond in front of the abbey.

Thursday 10th

Ulverscroft: 7 Bee-eaters still, showing on and off all day near the Priory, and appeared to go to roost beyond the house at 19:45. Park at the junction of Ulverscroft Lane & Priory Lane and follow the footpath NNW to view.

Wednesday 9th

Ulverscroft: 7 Bee-eaters still, showing well just beyond the Priory this afternoon.

Rutland Water: adult summer White-winged Black Tern, North Arm this afternoon.

Tuesday 8th

Ulverscroft: 6 Bee-eaters again this afternoon at a private site at the east end of Poultney Wood. The birds are mobile, and flew in from the north on at least one occasion, which suggests that they may be visible at times from the footpath past Ulverscroft Priory and pond, or from various places along Priory Lane. Do not leave the road or footpaths unless given specific permission by the landowner.

Monday 7th

Ulverscroft: 6 BEE-EATERS seen and photographed on private land near Poultney Wood this morning, "stayed for 3 hours" from 11:00. If looking for these birds, please park sensibly opposite the track to Ulverscroft Priory, c. SK503122, and STAY ON PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY!!

Stanford Res: Greenshank, 16 Black-tailed Godwits, 6 Dunlin & 6 Green Sandpipers.

Sunday 6th

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe, South Arm 3 (Lapwing hide); adult Little Gull, adult & 3 juv Med Gulls (evening) & Whimbrel, Lagoon 4; Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3; Black-tailed Godwit, Lagoon 1 + 3 Great White Egrets still.

Eyebrook Res: Greenshank, Green Sandpiper & 3 Dunlin at the inflow.

Wanlip Meadows: Greenshank & Common Sandpiper.

Cropston Res: 3 Common Sandpipers, Ringed Plover & Dunlin.

Saturday 5th

Rutland Water: Garganey, Lagoon 5; Wood Sandpiper & Common Sandpiper, North Arm; 5 Green Sandpipers, Wet Meadow; 19 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plovers & Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4, plus 3 Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Wanlip Sewage Works: juv Cuckoo near the wind turbine this morning.

Friday 4th

Rutland Water: Garganey, Lagoon 5; Wood Sandpiper & 2 Green Sandpipers, North Arm; 15 Black-tailed Godwits over Lagoon 1; Sanderling, 14 Dunlin, 10+ Ringed Plovers & Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4 + 3 Great White Egrets still around the reserve.

Thursday 3rd

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, North Arm.

Wednesday 2nd

Stanford Res: 10 Black-tailed Godwits, but no sign of Baird's Sandpiper today.

Leighfield: 2 Crossbills flew over the north side this morning.

Tuesday 1st

Stanford Res: adult BAIRD'S SANDPIPER for c5 minutes around 18:50, then flew strongly towards Blower's Lodge Bay (on Northants side) and no further sign despite searching. NB access to Stanford Res is by annual permit only (see the Stanford Res page in the Birding Sites section for details), and there are currently no arrangements in place for 'casual' day visits.

Rutland Water: Arctic Tern, Manton Bay + Great White Egret, Lagoon 1.
