Tur Langton: Quail heard singing behind the Old Bulls Head pub at 03:30.

Tuesday 29th

Rutland Water: Little Stint still on Lagoon 4; Short-eared Owl, Harrier hide this evening.

Monday 28th

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, Snipe hide this morning, but no sign later; Little Stint, Sanderling, Greenshank & 2 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; Black-tailed Godwit, Lagoon 1.

Sunday 27th

Wanlip Meadows: Wood Sandpiper & Greenshank still.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Black Terns off Stoke Dry car park.

Swithland Res: Black Tern on the north side.

Rutland Water: Greenshank, 2 Dunlin, Common Sandpiper & 6 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

North Luffenham: Bar-tailed Godwit on the airfield + Marsh Harrier flew east at 18:15.

Saturday 26th

Wanlip Meadows: Wood Sandpiper on the scrape, also 1 Greenshank.

Bottesford: Osprey flew north late morning.

Friday 25th

Rutland Water: Little Stint, Lagoon 4.

Thursday 24th

Honey Buzzard flew north over Leicester this morning (no further details).

Wednesday 23rd

Rutland Water: Greenshank, Lagoon 4 + Whimbrel flew over.

Tuesday 22nd

Eyebrook Res: male Redstart in hawthorn on south side of the bridge this evening.

Swithland Res: no sign or sound of Golden Oriole today.

Monday 21st

Swithland Res: Golden Oriole still singing in Buddon Wood till around 10:30 and then again briefly late afternoon. Also seen a few times during the day. Black-necked Grebe still on the north side + 2 Arctic Terns.

Eyebrook Res: Black Tern off Stoke Dry car park.

Sunday 20th

Swithland Res: Golden Oriole heard singing and calling frequently till around 10:30, but not seen at all, despite 20 - 30 people looking, then singing again late afternoon at least. Black-necked Grebe still present, but distant near the viaduct.

Cossington Meadows: Bar-tailed Godwit at the back of Hobley Lake this afternoon.

Willesley Lake: Osprey fishing this morning - present since Friday.

Buckminster: Short-eared Owl again by the B676, 1km south-west of the village this evening.

Saturday 19th

Swithland Res: 1st-summer male Golden Oriole singing and seen briefly in Buddon Wood from the 'open wall' overlooking the reservoir halfway along Kinchley Lane, 08:30 - 09:00 at least (Ralph Lockwood), but no sign later. Also Black-necked Grebe on the north side.

Rutland Water: Jack Snipe, Lagoon 2 (latest ever county record); 12 Turnstone, up to 9 Sanderling, Greenshank, 12 Dunlin & 1 Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4.

Friday 18th

Rutland Water: Greenshank & 3 Sanderling, Lagoon 4; Common Sandpipers, Lagoon 3 & dam.

Thursday 17th

Wellsborough: female Hen Harrier hunting over rape fields at Harris Bridge (c. SK351031) at 14:15.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper on the Wet Meadow briefly this evening, then flew north; Whimbrel & 5 Sanderling, Lagoon 4.

Thorpe-by-Water: 1 Short-eared Owl.

Wednesday 16th

Market Harborough: Honey Buzzard flew over the bypass late afternoon.

Newton Harcourt: 1+ Spotted Flycatcher still 250m east of the church at SP641967.

Tuesday 15th

Rutland Water: Marsh Harrier flew west over Lagoon 4 at 17:10. also Turnstone & 16 Dunlin; 1st-summer Med Gull around the reserve.

Newton Harcourt: 2 Spotted Flycatchers 250m east of the church at SP641967.

Monday 14th

Rutland Water: no sign of Temminck's Stints today, but 4 Sanderlings, 52 tundrae Ringed Plovers & 30 Dunlins, Lagoon 4 + Short-eared Owl over.

Sunday 13th

Rutland Water: 2 Temminck's Stints, Lagoon 4 this evening, also Grey Plover, 2 Turnstones, Black-tailed Godwit, 13 Dunlin & 22 Ringed Plovers; Spotted Flycatcher, Lyndon (+ others at Oakham and Cottesmore on Friday).

Bottesford: Whinchat on Longhedge Lane, north-west of the village.

Saturday 12th

Rutland Water: Turnstone, Lagoon 4 + Grey Plover somewhere.

Buckminster: Short-eared Owl on gatepost by B676 1 mile west of village late evening.

Friday 11th

Rutland Water: 14 Turnstones, Burley Fishponds; 3 Sanderlings, Turnstone, 20+ Dunlin & 23 tundrae Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

Hicks Lodge: 18 Dunlin, Hobby & Wheatear.

Thursday 10th

Rutland Water: Sanderling, Turnstone, Arctic Tern & 7 Dunlin, Lagoon 4; Bar-tailed Godwit on the Wet Meadow.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Common Sandpiper, Plover Meadow pool.

Wednesday 9th

Rutland Water: Little Tern, Lagoon 4, but no sign of Savi's Warbler today.

Tuesday 8th

Rutland Water: Savi's Warbler singing again, mid-afternoon at least, in same place as before. Also Sanderling & Turnstone, Lagoon 4; Short-eared Owl, Lagoon 1.

Welby: 1 Whimbrel.

Stanford Res: Short-eared Owl again this evening.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Hobby.

Monday 7th

Rutland Water: no sign or sound of Savi's Warbler all day. Curlew Sandpiper, Lagoon 4 and presumably a different bird on Lagoon 1; Greenshank flew over Goldeneye hide early afternoon; 4+ Hobbies around the reserve.

Brascote Pits: Bar-tailed Godwit still.

Stanford Res: Short-eared Owl on Leics side near inflow car park this evening.

Sunday 6th

Late news for yesterday: 2 Cranes at Loughborough Big Meadow, 19:00 - 19:30 at least, but no sign this evening.

Rutland Water: Savi's Warbler sang and showed from 09:00 - 09:30 at least, but no further reports that I am aware of. 3 Curlew Sandpipers, Lagoon 4.

Brascote Pits: Bar-tailed Godwit.

Cropston: female Brambling in a garden yesterday and today.

Swithland Res: Osprey & Hobby.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Hobbies + Short-eared Owl over the inflow this evening

Saturday 5th

Rutland Water: Savi's Warbler still singing in the reedbed between Crake and Buzzard hides, but further away than it was yesterday and not actually seen today as far as I know. It sang briefly a couple of times this morning, then again this evening. Apologies for the earlier confusion over whether it was present or not, but everyone I spoke to or heard from said that it hadn't been heard! Black Tern, Lagoon 3.

Cropston Res: Osprey this morning.

Watermead CP Birstall (not North as reported earlier) : Common Sandpiper & Grasshopper Warbler by Meadow Lake this morning.

Croft Hill: Grey Plover flew north mid-afternoon, also Hobby there.

Eyebrook Res: Whinchat & 2 Common Sandpipers.

Burton Lazars: 1 Short-eared Owl still.

Still good numbers of Wheatears at several sites today.

Friday 4th

Rutland Water: SAVI'S WARBLER singing and showing (as long as you're tall enough to see over the fence!) in the small reedbed on the left just before Crake hide, along the path to Lapwing hide. Sang and showed well till about 10:45, then intermittently for the rest of the day. Still present but elusive in poor weather this evening. Also Whimbrel, Turnstone, Curlew Sandpiper, Bar-tailed Godwit, Black Tern, 2nd-summer Med Gull, 5 Little Gulls & several Arctic Terns, Lagoons 4, the terns & Little Gulls also getting on Lagoon 3 & South Arm 3. Short-eared Owl, Lagoon 1; Turtle Dove near Badger hide.

Wanlip Meadows: 1 Avocet.

Between Countesthorpe & Foston: Whinchat this afternoon, just inside the private road that leads to Soars Lodge Farm.

Grove Park: 4 Wheatears still.

Thursday 3rd

Rutland Water: 43 Bar-tailed Godwits, 14 Knot, Curlew Sandpiper, Grey Plover, Sanderling, Black Tern, Med Gull & 2 Sandwich Terns, Lagoon 4.

Groby Pool: female Marsh Harrier flew north-east early afternoon.

Mountsorrel: Hobby Slash Lane/A6 area again.

Cossington Meadows: Common Sandpiper & 6+ Yellow Wagtails.

Wednesday 2nd

Rutland Water: male Whinchat between Old Hall & Hambleton Wood and female in Sailing Club Bay (also 8 Wheatears there); 2 Sanderlings, 35 Arctic Terns, 2 Common Sandpipers & 1 Dunlin, North Arm; Little Tern, 4 Little Gulls, Bar-tailed Godwit, 8 Avocets, 10 Dunlin & 4 White Wagtails, Lagoon 4; 3 Whimbrels, South Arm 2; Grasshopper Warbler behind Lagoon 3; 5 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 1; 6 Wheatears, Snipe hide.

Groby Pool: Osprey, Hobby & Common Sandpiper.

Timberwood Hill: Tree Pipit & 5 Wheatears.

Mountsorrel: 1 Hobby, Slash Lane/A6.

Stoughton Airfield: 1 Cuckoo.

Cossington Meadows: 8 Yellow Wagtails.

Grove Park: 6 Wheatears.

Lesser Whitethroats at several sites today.

Tuesday 1st

Rutland Water: 5 Black Terns & 2 Little Gulls, Lagoon 3; Short-eared Owl, Lagoon 1; 8 Wheatears, Snipe hide.

Hickling Pastures: female/imm Marsh Harrier just north of the A606 (cSK673273) at 17:30.

Kendrew Barracks (formerly Cottesmore Airfield): 3 Whimbrels & 20+ Wheatears.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Black Terns.

North Luffenham GC: 15 Wheatears.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Cuckoo & 5 Greenshanks. NB the Cossington - Rothley road is flooded, as is the main entrance to the reserve. Access via Platts Lane - most of the reserve is accessible, but wellies are essential!

Hallaton: Short-eared Owl & Hobby off the Horninghold Road

Burton Lazars: 3 Short-eared Owls.

Stanford Res: Short-eared Owl on Leics bank late afternoon.
