Monday 30th

Oakham: Yellow-browed Warbler in garden of 9 Wensum Close this afternoon (SK 868 089). Heading north on the A606 Burley Park Way from the roundabout with the B604, take the first left onto Alsthorpe Road, then second left into Wensum Close. PLEASE PARK SENSIBLY if visiting this residential estate. Birders can use the side gate of number 9 to access the wooded area at the far end of the garden. The bird is calling occasionally, but goes quiet for long periods. May also be seen/heard from the other side of the trees at the end of Willow Crescent.

Cossington Meadows: 1 Black-tailed Godwit.

Sunday 29th

Eyebrook Res: juv Curlew Sandpiper, 4 Ruff & Red-crested Pochard.

Rutland Water: Knot & 15 Ringed Plovers, Crake hide; Marsh Harrier, Lagoon 3.

Bardon Hill: 2 Crossbills & 3 Redwings this morning.

Cossington Meadows: Black-tailed Godwit, Upper Marsh.

Wanlip Meadows: 2 Ruff & 2 Dunlin from Plover hide.

Ashby Pastures: Osprey flew south.

Frisby GP: Osprey fishing on Broome Angling Club lake.

Frolesworth Manor Lake: 1 Green Sandpiper.

Saturday 28th

Eyebrook Res: Spoonbill still briefly first thing this morning, but then flew off; 4 Ringed Plovers, 2 Ruff & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Cossington Meadows: Black-tailed Godwit, Tern Pool this morning.

Friday 27th

Eyebrook Res: juv Spoonbill at the inflow this evening, having earlier been on the island. Also Wood Sandpiper, 3 Dunlin & 1 Ringed Plover.

Rutland Water: Rock Pipit flew east over Whitwell this morning, also Turnstone & 37 Ringed Plovers, Old Hall.

Thursday 26th

Bardon Hill: Woodlark flew low south-east this morning (Andy Forryan).

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe, 2 Marsh Harriers, 9 Greenshanks & 2 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 3; Grey Plover, Manton Bay; 2 Ruff, South Arm 3; 15 Ringed Plovers & 11 Dunlin, Old Hall.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Ruff & 7 Dunlin at the inflow.

Also a late report of a Woodlark 'near Burrough-on-the-Hill' on the 23rd.

Wednesday 25th

No news received for today.

Tuesday 24th

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe still, Lagoon 3, also Bittern, female Scaup & Green Sandpiper; Black-necked Grebe, South Arm 3; 4 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 1; 2 Rock Pipits & drake Scaup at the dam, also 3 Grey Plovers & 4 Bar-tailed Godwits flew west; Spotted Redshank & 5 Red-crested Pochards, North Arm. Also around the reserve: Marsh Harrier, 6 Greenshanks, 8 Ruff, 11 Dunlin & 34 Ringed Plovers.

Monday 23rd

Rutland Water: Garganey, Lagoon 1; 3 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: adult Med Gull at the inflow, also 5 Dunlin, 6 Ruff & 1 Ringed Plover.

Sunday 22nd

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe still, Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: possible Azorean Yellow-legged Gull reported at 16:00, however other observers reported that the only large gull present at that time was a Herring Gull.

Swithland Res: Common Sandpiper on the dam.

Watermead CP South: 2 Redwings flew south-west this morning.

Saturday 21st

Eyebrook Res: Unconfirmed report of a Pectoral Sandpiper at the inflow this afternoon, but many observers on site and no-one has seen it or spoken to anyone who claims to have seen it! Any information on this bird would be welcome. 2 Curlew Sandpipers still at the inflow, also adult Med Gull briefly this afternoon, 4 Ruff, 10 Dunlin & 3 Ringed Plovers. Also drake Red-crested Pochard south of the island.

Rutland Water: Black-necked Grebe & female Scaup, Lagoon 3; 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Dunlin, 9 Ringed Plovers & 1 Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; Greenshank, Lagoon 1; drake Red-crested Pochard, Lapwing hide; single Ruff & Dunlin on the South Arm island, but no sign of the Pec Sand (or any other waders) from Gadwall hide at least.

Watermead CP South: Tree Pipit flew north-east over the Mammoth this morning.

Cossington Meadows: 3 Black-tailed Godwits & Greenshank still on Hobley Lake.

Friday 20th

Rutland Water: no sign of Buff-breasted Sandpiper today. Pectoral Sandpiper still on South Arm 3 island, also 2 Ruff, 8 Dunlin & 3 Ringed Plovers; Little Stint, 3 Black-tailed Godwits & 20 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; 2 juv Curlew Sandpipers, 8 Dunlin, 14 Ringed Plovers & 2 Garganey, Manton Bay; Black-necked Grebe, Lagoon 3. Also the possible Azorean Yellow-legged Gull on the South Arm island this evening and a Little Tern on Lagoon 3.

Eyebrook Res: Wood Sandpiper, Little Stint, 2 juv Curlew Sandpipers, LRP, 2 Ringed Plovers, 6 Dunlin, 6 Ruff, Green Sandpiper & Marsh Harrier.

Cossington Meadows: 3 Black-tailed Godwits & 1 Greenshank, Hobley Lake; 3 Ringed Plovers, Upper Marsh.

Thursday 19th

Rutland Water: Buff-breasted Sandpiper again on Lagoon 4 briefly at 12:30, then flew off west, but was relocated on the South Arm island, along with the Pectoral Sandpiper, and both still present this evening. Best viewed from Gadwall hide; might also be visible from the Old Hall, but the island is around 5-600 yards away whichever side of the South Arm it's viewed from. Also 2 Curlew Sandpipers & 2 Garganey, Manton Bay.

Wednesday 18th

Rutland Water: Buff-breasted Sandpiper on Lagoon 4 briefly around 17:00, but flew off high to the north (John Wright). Also 2 Curlew Sandpipers, Knot, 2 LRPs, Greenshank & 3 Garganey, Manton Bay; Little Stint & possibly the Pec Sand still on South Arm island, but difficult in the haze and strong wind; 6 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 1, plus usual waders around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: 3 Curlew Sandpipers, Wood Sandpiper, 7 Ruff, 2 Dunlin, Green Sandpiper & 2 Ringed Plovers, also eclipse drake Red-crested Pochard at the island.

Watermead CP North: Green Sandpiper & 2 Common Sandpipers; nearby, 4 Ringed Plovers, Cossington Meadows.

Broughton Astley: Wheatear in a garden this evening.

Tuesday 17th

Eyebrook Res: 3 juv Curlew Sandpipers, 2 Ruff, 2 Ringed Plovers & 2 Dunlin.

Little Stretton: Osprey at 07:00.

Cottesmore Airfield: 5 Wheatears.

Monday 16th

Eyebrook Res: 3 juv Curlew Sandpipers, Wood Sandpiper, 8 Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, 1 Ringed Plover & 1 Dunlin.

Rutland Water: Curlew Sandpiper, 5 Garganey, 2 Greenshanks, Dunlin & 14 Ruff, Manton Bay.

Swithland Res: Common Sandpiper on the dam.

Cossington Meadows: 6 Ringed Plovers still, Upper Marsh.

Sunday 15th

Rutland Water: no reports of Pectoral Sandpiper today, just 1 Ruff, 3 Dunlin & 2 Ringed Plovers on South Arm island; 6 Dunlin, Old Hall & 2 Dunlin South Arm 2.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Wood Sandpiper still, 6 Ruff & 1 Dunlin.

Cossington Meadows: 6 Ringed Plovers on upper Marsh.

Saturday 14th

Rutland Water: juv Pectoral Sandpiper still, South Arm island/Old Hall, plus 2 Little Stints; 2 Black-necked Grebes, South Arm; Little Stint, Lagoon 4; Wood Sandpiper, 5 Garganey & 17 Ruff, Manton Bay.

Eyebrook Res: 1 Wood Sandpiper, 2 Dunlin, 4 Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, 1 Common Sandpiper & 3 Ringed Plovers.

Mountsorrel Marshes: Whinchat on fence by pond by footpath to Sileby. Nearby, Little Ringed Plover, 3 Ringed Plovers & Common Sandpiper, Cossington Meadows.

Saddington Res: 1 Greenshank.

Friday 13th

Rutland Water: juv Pectoral Sandpiper still on South Arm 3 island from Old Hall, also 4 Ruff & c12 Dunlin. NB - another road closure - the road between Egleton village and Hambleton Road is closed for up to 30 days (but weekdays only; open at weekends). Diversion via the A6003/A606.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Wood Sandpipers still, also Marsh Harrier at 12:30, 4 Ruff, 2 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpipers & 1 Common Sandpiper.

Wanlip Meadows: adult Med Gull.

Thursday 12th

Rutland Water: juv Pectoral Sandpiper still on South Arm 3 island, also 2 Little Stints, Turnstone, Sanderling, + 5 Common Scoters in South Arm 3; Bar-tailed Godwit, Snipe hide; 6 Garganey, Manton Bay.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Wood Sandpipers still, 2 Ruff & 2 Dunlin. NB the road across the bridge at the inflow is closed for up to 30 days, so it is not possible to get from one side of the reservoir to the other without a huge detour through either Stockerston & Uppingham (6+ miles) or Great Easton & Caldecott (even further).

Brascote Pits: 1 Green Sandpiper.

Wednesday 11th

Rutland Water: juv Pectoral Sandpiper, Lagoon 3, then presumably the same bird in South Arm 3, initially on the island and then on the Old Hall shoreline. Also on the island 2 Curlew Sandpipers (earlier on Lagoon 4) & 2 Little Stints, + female Scaup near the island. 2 Black-necked Grebes, Lapwing hide; Bittern, Lagoon 3.

Tuesday 10th

Rutland Water: Bar-tailed Godwit, North Arm; Garganey, Lagoon 3; Spotted Redshank still, Crake hide; Black-tailed Godwits, Crake hide & Lagoon 1, plus small numbers of commoner waders around the reserve.

Eyebrook Res: 2 Wood Sandpipers still at the inflow + Ruff & Common Sandpiper.

Cropston Res: Black Tern still, also Osprey this morning; nearby 2 Whinchats on hay bales c400m along the footpath from the end of Causeway Lane, and 2 Wheatears.

Cossington Meadows: Greenshank & Green Sandpiper, Hobley Lake; 2 Ringed Plovers & Common Sandpiper, Upper Marsh.

Monday 9th

Eyebrook Res: 2 Wood Sandpipers still, also Ruff, 2 Greenshanks, 4 Common Sandpipers & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Rutland Water: Wood Sandpiper, Old Hall.

Groby Pool: Redstart along the footpath to Newtown Linford.

Cropston Res: juv Black Tern & Common Sandpiper; nearby, 5 Wheatears along the footpath between Causeway Lane, Cropston & Bradgate Park.

Sunday 8th

Eyebrook Res: 2 Wood Sandpipers, Ruff, Common Sandpiper & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Rutland Water: Spotted Redshank still, Crake hide; 2 Marsh Harriers, Ruff & Green Sandpiper, Lagoon 1; 3 Greenshanks, Lagoon 4; 1 Greenshank, South Arm 3.

Bardon Hill: 1 Crossbill + 1 Clouded Yellow.

Cossington Meadows: Dunlin & 2 Ringed Plovers, Upper Marsh.

Saturday 7th

Bradgate Park: Pied Flycatcher near the Anstey gate this morning.

Watermead CP North: juv Black Tern, King Lear's Lake.

Rutland Water: 2 Marsh Harriers, Lagoon 3 late morning; Spotted Redshank, Crake hide; 2 Black-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 4.

Eyebrook Res: no sign of Spotted Crake today; juv Marsh Harrier at the island at 11:15; Green Sandpiper & 6 Dunlin at the inflow.

Groby Pool: Black-tailed Godwit flew south at 07:52.

Cossington Meadows: Dunlin, Common Sandpiper & Ringed Plover.

Friday 6th

Eyebrook Res: Spotted Crake seen again on at least occasions this afternoon/evening. Also juv Med Gull briefly.

Groby Pool: 3 1st-winter Little Gulls this afternoon.

Swithland Res: 2 Common Sandpipers on the dam.

Thursday 5th

Late news for yesterday: photos of the Great White Egret, taken at Hobley Lake, Cossington Meadows, have appeared on the LROS flickr page. No reports of it today.

Eyebrook Res: Spotted Crake seen again on several occasions, late afternoon/evening. Also juv Curlew Sandpiper from the bridge, 2 Dunlin & 1 Green Sandpiper.

Rutland Water: Curlew Sandpiper, Snipe hide; Spotted Redshank, 2 Marsh Harriers, Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper & Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 3; Spotted Redshank & Ruff, Crake hide; 4 Black-tailed Godwits, Greenshank, 2 Ruff & 1 Common Sandpiper, Manton Bay.

Wednesday 4th

Eyebrook Res: Spotted Crake again at the inflow briefly on at least three occasions this afternoon/evening, from the fenced viewing area on the Leics side. Also 2 Dunlin, 5 Common Sandpipers & 3 Green Sandpipers.

Watermead CP North: Great White Egret flew north towards Cossington at c. 08:40.

Rutland Water: 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 9 Ruff & 5 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 1; Dunlin & Ringed Plover, South Arm 3 island.

Saddington Res: Greenshank & Common Sandpiper.

Oadby: Swift flew over at 08:00.

Charnwood Lodge: 1 Wheatear.

Tuesday 3rd

Eyebrook Res: Spotted Crake again at the inflow at 16:45, from the fenced-off viewing area inside the hedge on the Leics side, also1 Avocet there.

Rutland Water: Spotted Redshank, Harrier hide; 5 Garganey, Manton Bay.

Wanlip Meadows: Black-tailed Godwit & 2 Green Sandpipers.

Monday 2nd

Eyebrook Res: Spotted Crake again at the inflow this evening, but very elusive, (NB also adult & juvenile Water Rails in the same area) + 2 Dunlin, 2 Ruff, 2 Common Sandpipers & 5 Green Sandpipers.

Rutland Water: 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Green Sandpipers & 6 Ruff, Lagoon 1; 5 Dunlin & 2 Ringed Plovers, South Arm island; 2 Ringed Plovers, Old Hall.

Birstall Meadows: Greenshank, Dunlin, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Green Sandpiper + Swift.

Hinckley: Wheatear on a roof in Lossiemouth Road this morning before flying off south.

Sunday 1st

Eyebrook Res: unconfirmed report of the Spotted Crake at the inflow again this evening, also 3 Ruff, 5 Green Sandpipers, Common Sandpiper & 2 Dunlin.

Rutland Water: Sanderling, 1st-winter Med Gull, 2 Dunlin & 2 Ringed Plovers; 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Ruff & 3 Green Sandpipers, Lagoon 1; 4 Ruff, Old Hall.

Croft Quarry: 7 Bar-tailed Godwits flew north this morning.

Watermead CP South: Arctic Tern flew south this morning, also 1 Swift.

Heather: 2 Whinchats, Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Wood, near the new hide by the lake.

Brascote GP: 1 Green Sandpiper.

Grimston: Osprey flew high south-east this afternoon.
